Urbanise joins successful Smart Blocks consortium
Smart Blocks is a national program to assist strata managers, Owners Corporations and strata residents to implement sustainability projects into their apartment buildings. For the past 5 years, it has been run by two of Australia’s largest local councils, the City of Melbourne (CoM) and City of Sydney (CoS). Recognising the need to link Smart Blocks’s guides and tools to commercial solutions, a competitive tender process was launched in 2016 to gift this program to the best consortium that could demonstrate a business plan to grow and expand Smart Blocks. Urbanise joined a consortium of companies including ISS, a specialist strata sustainability consultant, the Westpac Bank, PICA, ARA, Verdia, Mandalay Technologies and St George Community Housing. ISS, the lead bidder, won the rights to Smart Blocks and has now partnered with Urbanise and the other consortium partners to grow and commercialise Smart Blocks. Smart Blocks will work closely with the CoM and CoS and another 40 participating councils around the country to promote sustainability and energy saving initiatives in apartment buildings. Smart Blocks have agreed, amongst other things, to promote Urbanise’s technology and use it to assist apartment buildings to be smarter, more efficient and greener.
