The 3 Technologies of the Future
The world is changing much faster than ever before in history. This exciting time is defined by extraordinary technological innovations that change the way we live, the way we engage with each other and the way we interact with the physical world. For those of you old enough to remember, try to think back to a time without mobile phones, smart phones, portable laptops, iPods, multi-touch desktops smart tablets and wearable devices. It’s hard to remember how we worked and functioned without all the gadgets and technologies that we now rely on and that structure our daily lives.
As a technology company, we are always developing new technology and looking out for new trends and innovations. We believe this exponential increase in technology is set to continue and that it is crucial for companies to understand future trends and how they will affect consumers. Here are three technologies that we think will change the way we live and work and that are fast becoming common around the world:
1. Internet of Things
Simply put the Internet of Things (IoT) is the concept that interrelated devices, machines and objects can communicate with one another exchanging data over the Internet without requiring human-to-human or human to computer interaction. This includes pretty much anything you can think of – from cell phones, washing machines and gadgets to printers and sensors. This technology already exists in the form of wearable devices that speak to your phones, scales, appliances and so much more. In a commercial setting it takes the form of smart sensors that communicate information about assets and/or buildings’ temperature, humidity, motion, vibration, light and so much more. This information in turn helps facility managers improve space usage, optimize energy consumption and prevent asset breakdowns. With Gartner predicting there will be over 26 billion connected devices by 2020 (three connected devices for every human on the planet), IoT is set to change the world as we know it.
2. 3D Printing
3D printing is an exciting new technology that has ground breaking implications in so many industries. It is being used as an innovative solution in interior design and a life saving one in healthcare. The possibilities are endless with printers that can print out any digital designs in any form and any material – from plastic, to metal, and even food. And the most exciting part is that 3D printing is going to have even more implications with the new generation of more affordable printers. 3D Printing is set to influence all aspects of future life and most importantly it will redefine how we interact with our physical world!
3. Augmented Reality
‘Augmented reality is a live, direct or indirect view of a physical or real world environment whose elements are augmented or supplemented by computer generated graphics or video or sound or GPS data. By contrast virtual reality replaces a real world by a simulated one’.wikipedia For anyone who doubts the role augmented reality will have in our future, I would suggest to look at the incredible phenomena that the ‘Pokémon Go’ app became nearly overnight. The app allows users to catch virtual Pokémons in the “real world”. This technology adds a fantasy layer to the real world and in doing so engages with users in a totally different way. We think this technology will redefine the future of gaming and become increasingly common outside the gaming industry as a new and innovative way for brands to engage with their consumers.
